ALBANY, NY (August 6, 2008) – The summer is a time a time to relax and sit by the water for some people; Skyrockets Head Coach Chris Daleo is not one of those. He is currently in charge of heading up the logistics for a Korean basketball federation team to hold their veterans camp in Chicago. This camp will also serve Daleo well, as he will be able to evaluate and procure talent for the Skyrockets as they look to improve on last years CBA Finals appearance.

CBA ANNOUNCES ALL-LEAGUE TEAMS

ALBANY, NY (April 8, 2008) – The Continental Basketball Association today announced their annual All-League selections. These selections are voted upon by the ten member head coaches. To be eligible, players must have played in 24 games (1/2 of the 48 game schedule) and be in good standing with the CBA. Coaches could not vote for their own players.

OKLAHOMA CAVALRY WIN CBA CHAMPIONSHIP

ALBANY, NY (March 30, 2008) – The CBA completed its 62nd season of play tonight with the Oklahoma Cavalry winning the CBA Championship by defeating the Minot Skyrockets in the deciding fifth game of the CBA Playoffs, 86-76 and captured the Jay Ramsdell Trophy in the process. Due to his stellar play throughout the CBA Finals series, Brandon Dean was awarded the CBA Playoffs Most Valuable Player award.

SKYROCKETS EVEN CBA FINALS WITH WIN OVER CAVALRY CBA CHAMPIONSHIP TO BE DECIDED IN GAME FIVE

ALBANY, NY (March 29, 2008) – The Minot Skyrockets bounced back from Wednesday’s defeat to even the CBA Finals at two games apiece, with a 96-82 victory over the Oklahoma Cavalry. The CBA Finals ends tomorrow with the deciding game of the five game series. The Cavalry won games one and three, while Minot has won games two and four. The final 48 minutes of the CBA season will decide the CBA Championship.

SKYROCKETS LAND FROM LONG DISTANCE TO EVEN CBA FINALS

ALBANY, NY (March 25, 2008) – With a three-point shot at the buzzer by Ronnie Fields, the Minot Skyrockets evened the CBA Finals series at one game apiece with the Oklahoma Cavalry. Now the CBA Finals shifts to Minot, as the Skyrockets will now host games 3, 4, and if needed game 5. Game three will take place on Wednesday, March 26.

Albany Patroons
In their final two home games of the regular season, the Patroons tried whatever they could to defeat the Rio Grande Valley Silverados, only to lose on Tuesday night to the McAllen crew 122-112 in overtime [5.5-1.5]. Nat Burton put in 30 points for the Patroons, while Jason “J-Bird” Williams had 25 points and 13 rebounds. On Wednesday night, the Patroons rested several of their starters and allowed their bench to play the final home game against Rio Grande Valley. Unfortunately for the Patroons, they were defeated by the Silverados 132-105 [7-0]. Ian Young and Lucious Jordan each scored 25 points; rookie Dabo Kabov had his first double-double of 23 points and 12 rebounds for the Green and Gold. In their final series of the season, the Patroons traveled to Lawton, Oklahoma for a two-game matchup against the Cavalry. In another punishing defeat, the Patroons were upended 150-104 [7-0], despite Nat Burton scoring a season-high 46 points; Burton also pulled down 14 rebounds. Ian Young added 24 points for Albany. The Patroons finished their 2007-08 season with a 150-130 [6-1] loss on the road at Oklahoma.
Butte Daredevils
Even though the Daredevils were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, the Copper City Crew still wanted to show they weren’t going away quietly, when on Wednesday night they defeated the playoff-bound Pittsburgh Xplosion 116-97 [6-1]. Aaron Cook had a double-double of 24 points and 12 assists, while Martane Freeman put up 19 points. Carl Boyd also had a double-double, scoring 12 points and pulling down a team-high 13 rebounds. Sunday night was “Fan Appreciation Night” at the Butte Civic Center, and although the Daredevils tried to give their fans a win on the final night of the regular season, the Pittsburgh Xplosion came out on top 116-113 [5-2]. Lamaar Farr finished the night with 28 points; while Carl Boyd had a double-double of 25 points and 19 rebounds. Benson Callier finished with 17 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double.
East Kentucky Miners
After setting a CBA record for most points in a game with 194 in a win over the Krunk, the East Kentucky Miners set another team record in their Wednesday night game against the Minot Skyrockets – by losing 134-121 [6-1], the Miners set a franchise record for most points allowed. Mike Dean had a double-double of 40 points and 12 assists; while Steve Thomas put up 20 points and pulled down 19 rebounds. Josh Pace added 30 points to his totals.

Minot Skyrockets
The Minot Skyrockets are on a roll, and they showed their dominance in a 134-121 [6-1] home victory Wednesday night against the East Kentucky Miners. Ronnie Fields led the Skyrockets with 25 more points; Ray Cunningham followed with 23 points and Kevin Johnson notched 24 points. After that came two “tune-up” matches. In the first game Friday night at the Launchpad, the Skyrockets handily crushed the Krunk 116-94 [6-1], as Ray Cunningham scored 28 points and 10 rebounds; Christopher Reaves added 25 points, and Darius Mattear pulled down 13 rebounds. The Skyrockets’ final game of the season came with a large crowd at the Minot Municipal Auditorium – and a 123-84 [7-0] killing of the Atlanta Krunk. Darius Mattear led the Skyrockets with 25 points and 20 rebounds in the game; while Kellen Miliner scored 20 points for the Skyrockets.
Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry
If the regular season is any indication, the upcoming playoff series between the Cavalry and the Sun Kings will be a series for the ages. On Monday night at the SunDome, the Cavalry took apart Yakama 98-82 [6-1], on the strength of 27 points from Daryan Selvy and 18 points from Nate Green; Marvin Phillips led in rebounding with 10 boards. Next up for the Cavs was a two-game series against the Albany Patroons, and a chance for former Patroons head coach Micheal Ray Richardson to face his former squad. He did not disappoint, as the Cavalry scored a franchise-high 150 points in a 150-104 [7-0] slaughtering of the Patroons. While Daryan Selvy had 22 points for Oklahoma, Tony Key added 20 points; Curtis Haywood earned a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds. The Cavalry finished the regular season with a 150-130 [6-1] beatdown on the Albany Patroons at the Great Plains Coliseum.
Pittsburgh Xplosion
After a long rest, the Xplosion traveled to Butte for the final two games of its regular season. On Wednesday night, however, the Daredevils drove over the Xplosion, 116-97 [6-1], despite 17 points from Dajuan Tate, 16 points from Albert White, and a double-double of 14 points and 10 boards from John DeGroat. In their final game of the regular season, the Xplosion battled the Butte Daredevils for 48 minutes, and finally won the game on the road 116-113 [5-2]. John DeGroat was the top scorer for the Black and Gold, finishing with 27 points and 11 rebounds; former Xplosion assistant coach DeVaughn Halsel stepped in uniform and got 10 points and 12 rebounds; while Albert White finished with 24 points.
Rio Grande Valley Silverados
In their final road trip of the season, the Silverados visited the Washington Avenue Armory for two games against the Albany Patroons. For many fans at the Armory, it was an opportunity to once again see former Albany Patroons Gordon Klaiber and the recently-signed Greg Morton and Kwan Johnson, albeit in red-black Silverados uniforms. Head coach Derrick Rowland, a former assistant coach and legendary player in Albany, smiled as his Silverados took out the Patroons 122-112 [5.5-1.5] in overtime. Renaldo Norman had 40 points, while Trent Eager finished with a double-double of 31 points and 11 rebounds. On Wednesday night, the Silverados finished off the Patroons once and for all, with a 132-105 [7-0] victory that knocked Albany out of the playoffs. Renaldo Norman and Jason Forte each scored 26 points for the Red and Black, Gordon Klaiber had 11 rebounds to go with his 18 points. The Silverados finished their season with two games against the Yakama Sun Kings; on Friday night, RGV came up just short of a win with a 98-94 [6-1] loss to the Sun Kings; former Sun King Jason Forte did accomplish a triple-double in the game, with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists; Cedric Smith and Gordon Klaiber each added 20 points for RGV. In their final game of the regular season, the Silverados lost to the Yakama Sun Kings 126-96 [5-2] on a Sunday afternoon at the Yakima SunDome. Jason Forte returned to score 23 points against his old squad; Gordon Klaiber added 21 points.
Yakama Sun Kings
In their final match-up with the Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry before the playoffs, the Sun Kings fell 98-82 [6-1] to the Lawton crew, despite a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds from Tim Ellis; and 17 points from Moochie Norris. Next up on the schedule was the Atlanta Krunk, who finished out the road schedule for the Great Falls Explorers. The Sun Kings, fresh from their loss to the Cavalry, took the Krunk to the woodshed and beat them 120-82 [7-0]. Desmond Ferguson’s team-leading 24 points included four three-pointers; while Harvey Thomas added 20 points; Moochie Norris had 11 assists to keep him as the front-runner in that category. The Sun Kings finished off their regular season with two games against the Rio Grande Valley Silverados; on Friday night, the Sun Kings took the Silverados with a 98-94 [6-1] victory, as Moochie Norris accomplished a triple-double of 26 points, 10 rebound and 10 assists. Jermaine Blackburn added 18 points. In their final game of the regular season, the Sun Kings clobbered the Rio Grande Valley Silverados at home 126-96 [5-2], giving the Sun Kings the greatest quarter-point total in league history (5.50), as well as the best winning percentage (.896) in the modern era. Nine of the ten players who wore Blue and Gold that Sunday afternoon scored in double figures, with Tim Ellis’ 20 points and 10 rebounds leading the way. Elvin Mims had 16 points and 12 rebounds; while Desmond Ferguson had 17 points, including three more 3-pointers.
