CBA Update
After the 2006 CBA season ended, four teams announced they were leaving for the NBA D-League: the Dakota Wizards, Idaho Stampede, Sioux Falls Skyforce, and the Colorado 14ers, a team that was scheduled to begin play for the CBA in fall of '06, but instead switched leagues. The only teams that have publicly expressed they definitely will be playing in the CBA for '06-'07 are the Albany Patroons and the Yakama Sun Kings.
The CBA office also relocated from Boise, ID to Albany, NY, as the Idaho Stampede switched to the D-League.
Recently, the San Jose Skyrockets, formerly of the American Basketball Association, announced their move to the CBA. The CBA also announced a new expansion team would open play in the 2006-2007 season in Butte, Montana. The team will be known as the Butte Daredevils, named for the town's famous daredevil Evel Knievel. Two days after the Butte team was announced, the Great Falls (Montana) Explorers joined the CBA. The team is named after famous explorers, Lewis and Clark. Recently, three former ABA teams announced their move to the CBA, the Florida Pit Bulls, the Indiana Alley Cats, and SoCal Legends. Florida and SoCal were deferred until 2007-2008 due to arena issues, and Florida changed its name to the Miami Majesty. [4] Also, the San Jose SkyRockets have moved to Minot, North Dakota, thus becoming the Minot SkyRockets.
The Utah Eagles, a Salt Lake City franchise, joined the CBA on September 21, 2006. The Pittsburgh Xplosion, an ABA franchise, and the Vancouver Dragons, a new team, joined the CBA on September 26, 2006.
